To explain, let me just say that I also believe whole-heartedly that tooth-brushing is important to dental health, and that pelvic floor exercises are important for retaining continence in later life. Both dental health and continence are things I value highly. Yet the immediate often overwhelms the long-term, and I find that while these simple tasks are not unpleasant, I can easily dissuade myself from them by finding far easier and more pleasant things to do instead. It comes back to discipline. I actually quite enjoy reading my Bible, but it is a challenge and not a relaxing, mind-numbing read like, say, Matilda (Roald Dahl - which is what I'm lulling myself to sleep with this week). But if you think of the Bible as like spiritual health food, it's quite chewy, and sometimes you just pass over the chewy stuff in favour of melt-in-your-mouth fairy floss fiction. In the bigger picture, though, I don't want to end up fat and frumpy with a soul muffin top, so I will persevere. Nothing worse than a know-it-all Christian who is religious about freaking everything, with no basis for the performance.

Thanks for the face-washing/bathroom advice. I opened a can of blitz on my bathroom today, and the results are quite pleasing - although subtle, and probably not really noticeable to the naked male eye. (That's naked 'male eye', not 'naked male' eye... errr, never mind.) Anyway, I'm happy with it, and I plan on skipping upstairs shortly, popping on my freshly bleached, blinding white bathrobe, and splashing glamourously about in there. Might be my imagination, but my skin is perhaps a fraction clearer?

So funny - naked male eye :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything you've set yourself. I read somewhere once that there's nothing quite so relaxing as sitting back and watching someone else working.
I'm not really sure if this is fundamentally true, but I do know that I enjoy reading about people doing housework etc than the actual experience of doing it myself :)
